Enjoy making your own homemade Cleansing Talc

The proper vitamins will help ensure a healthy complexion and nourish your skin.

Skin fat or sebum is in short supply in dry and sensitive skin. Traditional soaps dry the skin out even more which leads to heightened sensitivities to environmental influences. What the skin requires is a cleaning product the nourishes the skin as it cleans. Home made cleansing talc is one such solution.

Tip: A daily facial massage with walnut oil calms irritated skin as it relieves itchiness.

Cleansing Talc Recipe:

For dry skin

5 tbsp. dried marigold
4 tbsp. rolled oats
3 tbsp. dried lavender flowers
3 tbsp. dried rose petals
6 tbsp. ground vegetable soap
3 tbsp. powdered whole milk

For sensitive skin

5 tbsp. dried marigold
4 tbsp. dried arnica flowers
4 tbsp. dried chamomile flowers
4  tbsp. rolled oats
6 tbsp. ground vegetable soap
1 tbsp. powdered whole milk

For dry and mature skin

3 tbsp. aloe-vera juice
3 tbsp. liquid castile soap
3 tbsp. sunflower oil
1 tsp. vegetable glycerin
3 drops carrot-seed essential oil
3 drops geranium essential oil

For sensitive skin

5 tbsp. dried marigold
4 tbsp. dried arnica flowers
4 tbsp. dried chamomile flowers
4 tbsp. rolled oats
6 tbsp. ground vegetable soap
1 tbsp. powdered whole milk

  1. Finely grind the dried plant parts and rolled oats together; then sift the mixture through a large mesh sieve.
  2. Grate a bar of vegetable soap, such as olive oil soap, with a cheese crater. Or use castile soap flakes, which can be found in craft and health-food stores,
  3. Add the powdered milk and thoroughly mix all the ingredients. Pour the mixture into a decorative container, seal and store in a convenient bathroom spot.

Each recipe makes 24 tbsp. of talc, enough for close to a month of daily use. If kept dry and stored in a sealed container or storage bag, the talc can be used for up to a year. Note: Use a dry scoop to remove the talc, not your hands; this prevents the spread of bacteria and exposure to moisture.

Take Care!

  • Keep your skin moistened when using cleansing talc. If your skin is too dry, massaging or pulling roughly during cleaning can irritate and damage the connective tissue. This could result in a couperose complexion, characterized by redness and enlarged spider veins.
  • People with dry skin and a tendency to have a couperose complexion should not use skin toners containing alcohol after using cleansing talc.
  • To avoid damage from fertilizers and pesticides, always use organically grown dried herbs.

Application:

After removing any makeup, dampen your face with warm water. Wet 1 tablespoon of the cleansing talc and spread it on your hands. Gently massage the mixture into your face and neckline for one minute, keeping it away from your eyes. Rinse with warm water and pat dry. Next, apply a gentle acidic toner (a combination of 1 part apple-cider vinegar to 10 parts water is idea) to restore the skin's pH balance.

Ingredient Benefits:

Marigold and chamomile for reddening: Dried marigold and chamomile flowers have a soothing effect on the skin. They also alleviate itching and reddening, which can often occur after washing skin that is dry and sensitive.

Rose blossoms for tender skin: The conditioning ingredients contained in rose petals help soothe and restore dry skin.

Lavender for gentle healing: Lavender flowers offer gentle yet potent skin-healing effects. Lavender speeds cell renewal, acts as an antiseptic and calms irritated skin.

Rolled oats for exfoliating: Finely ground old-fashioned rolled oats make a bland conditioning flower that also serves as an effective and gentle exfoliant. The oats are non-irritating for sensitive skin and gently bleach the skin of hyperpigmentation spots.

Gentle cleansing soap: Mild alkaline soap, made from vegetable fats and oils, provide beneficial purifying and foaming properties.

Powdered milk for smoothing: Powdered whole milk nourishes skin, keeping it soft and elastic. Lactic acid in milk smoothes and refines the skin.
