Enjoy making your own homemade Shower Gel
Seal in the moisture received from your daily shower by applying
a soothing body lotion.
A daily morning shower has become the standard for waking yourself
up and rev your engine for the day. To benefit the most from your shower,
may it be in the morning or perhaps after a workout or in the evening
before you step out, keep the water only slightly warm, not hot. Very
hot water actually can stress the circulatory system and may cause skin
irritation, such as dry, scaly or itchy skin. Because nature offers
a broad spectrum of products that gently soften, cleanse and condition
the skin, making your own homemade natural products can help you offset
some of the drying that regular showers can cause.

Moneysaver Tip:
Natural shower gels can double as a
gentle shampoo or facial wash, or even a mild detergent for
washing fine lingerie. The frequent traveler should pack this
multipurpose product with every trip. |

Indian Massage Oil
This skin-softening mixture of oils, for use
after a shower gel, comes from Ayurveda, an ancient medicine
practiced in India.
1 cup unrefined sesame oil
10 drops peppermint essential oil
10 drops lemongrass essential oil
10 drops geranium essential oil
10 drops basil essential oil
- Cleanse your skin with a gentle shower gel and rinse
thoroughly. Pat dry.
- While your body is still slightly damp, apply approximately
1 tbsp. of the oil mixture over the entire body. Massage
your feet and work toward your heart until the oil is absorbed.
Note: Anyone who has extremely dry, dehydrated skin
should follow the second step with a layer of body lotion.

Ingredient
Benefits:
Rose water for gentle care: Rose water is often found
in commercial cosmetic products because of its fragrant, softening
and mildly astringent properties. The delicate water is obtained
from a steam distillation process that can extract the oil.
Its gentle effect make rose water great for use in shower gels,
creams and lotions.
Baby shampoo for a base: Unscented natural
baby shampoo, available in health-food stores, makes a good
base for a shower gel. It's gentle on the skin, lathers well
and is suitable for personalizing with the scent of your favorite
essential oil.
Liquid castile soap for sensitive skin: Liquid castile
soap is a concentrated solution of an olive-oil based soap.
It makes a perfect shower-gel base for those with very sensitive
skin. The resulting product also has a thinner consistency than
baby shampoo.
Orange-blossom water for oily skin: Orange-blossom
water, sometimes called neroli water, helps improve and refine
pores as well as refresh oily skin. When added to a shower gel,
its astringent properties prevent blemishes from forming and
improve the appearance of skin. Orange-blossom water, a by-product
of essential-oil production, has an uplifting scent.
